| The 3rd Dunsfold Wing & Wheels event was held in glorious weather - though the ground was very boggy following on from the drenching that southern England received during the 'summer'. The event is held in aid of several local charities including 'Chase' Children's Hospice, Surrey Air Ambulance, Cranleigh Village Hospital Trust and Brooklands Museum.
Held at Dunsfold Park, the former Hawker airfield where aircraft such as the Hunter, Harrier and Hawk were designed and built. Originally opened in 1942, Dunsfold was first the home of 400 & 414 (RCAF) Squadrons flying Mustangs. This was celebrated by Peter Teichmann flying his P-51D 'Jumping Jacques. Later Mitchell bombers of the RAF and 2nd Tactical Air Force were based here and were represented at the show by The Dukes Of Brabant Mitchell giving a very spirited display. The 2007 show also saw a special tribute to the famous test pilot Neville Duke who died earlier in the year. As well as the flying display, Wing & Wheels is also organised in aid of the Brooklands Museum and many famous cars and motorcyles are powered up and make spirited runs along the main runway. This is highly appropriate as BBC Top Gear has their test track using the runway and taxiways and the programme is filmed on one of the former Hawker buildings. |
